The Boulevard of the Untamed Dreams

by: dodong

The sun starts its reign of the day. The dazzling beauty of the rainbow-like colors of the sea, the tiny waves approached the shores when stillness was the mood of the pacific ocean, and the scent of the early morning breeze how could one forget you. It reminds  like it just happened yesterday, a vivid recollections, these are but the reminisced memories of the then little boy who used to witness the sunrise at Bacuag sea front while collecting a kind of small clam, the sea shell called “Caraycay.”

The view of the scenic silver sparkling sand of the shores winking as it shined seemingly begs for mercy, the people and the relatives of the fishermen who hardly open their eyes, eagerly waiting the fishermen who went on their fishing adventures the whole night, queuing and waiting to have a glance on their catched were over jealous when finally plenty of sorted fishes caught were being displayed. Undeterred by the heat of the shores as the sun seemed hotter than usual they did endure to be able to select the best fish of their own choice.

Oh summer time here I am as the boy quipped, no classes, unyielding for more playing time, swimming & sun bathing seemed relentless, at the seashores with ample gusty winds conducive to kite flying, these were children’s festivities during the day. While parents were busy in the farms harvesting rice, their kids were also busy making sand castles, casting fish nets and bait fishing. “Aso-os” and “buga-ong” were their common fishes caught.

Unlike the years that had gone by, people at present find it difficult to rely on aqua-marine product for their livelihood. It’s likely our place is already over populated or source of marine resources are very much depleted. The LGU’s timely putting fish sanctuary covering mostly the town’s stretched shores was the best control measures ever done to protect and preserve the newly hatched and fish spawns to ensure the growth of the same to replenish our supply of fishes due for people consumption.

The people of Bacuag have witnessed the construction of seawall in the past years, and our LGU has successfully sponsored the holding of national skim boarding competitions. What we need now is the much improved beach and more presentable seashore to cater our visitor’s good sight. Let’s not be reluctantly mover of progress. We shall help our leaders get rid of eye sores and pollutions at the seafront. Support the realization of the plan to construct the Bacuag Boulevard from the Bitaog River down to Sabang river. This tourism project will not only improve the sight of our town’s beautiful seashore but will surely help us in income generating endeavors and augurs other recreational locations like safe bicycle lanes during night time and a good place for ocean and sunrise spectators and star gazers, expectedly nightlife will be alive because amenities will flourish such as barbecue grills and other food concessions. Be part of the dreams!

  1. Sure! This is a great project. There's nothing wrong with dreams, after all great civilizations have risen and fallen with great dreamers. However, i have few questions to ask: 1)Is the cost of this project can compensate the benefit in terms of economic value? 2) Do we have funds to do this - and if so, is this really what the poor people of Bacuag want to prioritize - more than food, health, education and income generating projects? 3) Development? Yes! but for whom? For me, in a poor municipality such as Bacuag, there are so many priorities - of greater importance than this - that our leaders should focus first. What I mean is, "first-things-first".

  2. To Anonymous, thanks for the comments. Truly dreamers help our planet earth beautiful to live in and at the same time place it to the dangers of total destruction by pursuing their plans of dominion or subjugation. Permit me to share my opinion on the matter. 1.) whether or not the cost of the project can compensate the benefits in terms of the economic value? Yes I humbly believe it could. The plaza seawall was constructed more or less half a century ago and still now provides benefits to Bacuaganons in any forms like public plaza with no concrete income but the return in investments (ROI)where it's not tangible as cash gain but surely you save it into the hearts and minds of the people, not to mention the opportunity profit you earned had the construction done today. 2.)Whether or not we have funds for this project? Our town has no sufficient funds to finance locally this project, but we can have it sourced from; the province, national through congressional initiatives or other country's lending institutions or grants & the like. But we have yet to see a resolution to this effect to make this project proposal feasible, besides this is under the tourism purview and we can ask for them to initiate. To give priorities to our basic necessities such as food, shelter, health and education which as of this time a project of this sort should be imperatively initiated, it's to me not wise to let other thrusts of government left behind.

  3. In addition to clean and green as the government by word to encourage the people maintain cleanliness of the surroundings, let's put teeth to the laws and ordinances for violators to strictly follow so that eyesores and pollutants are nil if not being remedied in the bay side.

  6. based on my own point of view, tourism is an asset and not a liability. this is the best solution aspiring for progress, we are hitting more birds at a time, while we enjoy the improvement of the scenic view, we gain more tourists to visit our place so as to let them see the natural beauty of our place, as far as we enjoy, we also conserve and preserve the natural inhabitat that we have as by doing so pollution can be eliminated.

  7. Thanks cash, for your nice ideas, you're one whose name is not only synonyms to forgiveness, kindness, compassion or if I may add, a willing source of favor expressed not in a venom of words that kill the spirit but rather one that usually breathes life. Dieu Vous Garde!
